Bamidele Esan scored the first two goals of the tournament, and with a man advantage, the Hailstorm took control.
Travis Ward and Carlos Valenzuela added goals before halftime.

Modesto City, starting with just nine players, suffered injuries and ultimately abandoned the match at halftime. A commanding 4–0 victory for Hailstorm to open the tournament.
