ST. CHARLES, MO (November 28, 2025) — The Kansas City Comets opened the 2025-26 MASL season in commanding fashion, earning a 7–3 road win over the St. Louis Ambush on Friday night at The Family Arena. The victory gives Kansas City the early edge in the annual I-70 Series Cup and extends the Comets’ strong Black Friday tradition.

The visitors struck first just 67 seconds into the match when Lesia Thetsane connected on a left-footed volley off a ricocheted pass from Zach Reget, beating Ambush goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento for a 1–0 lead. St. Louis responded quickly, leveling the match on a restart as Lucas Almeida set up Duduca to make it 1–1.

The back-and-forth pace continued as Christian Anderaos restored the Comets’ lead, finishing a long distribution from goalkeeper Phillip Ejimadu for his first goal of the season. The Ambush equalized again on a power-play restart in the 13th minute when Daniel Torrealba scored his first for the club, sending the teams into the first break tied 2–2.

St. Louis gained a man advantage just 32 seconds into the second quarter when Kansas City’s Leonardo Acosta was shown a red card for an elbow. Despite the setback, the Comets weathered the pressure and struck late in the half. Jacob Garza netted the first goal of his MASL career, and moments later Lucas Sousa set up Anderaos on a wall pass to give Kansas City a 4–2 halftime lead.

Both teams tightened up defensively in the third quarter. The Ambush outshot Kansas City 5–3 in the frame, but the Comets’ back line—highlighted by Thetsane, Chad Vandegriffe, Nacho Flores, and Guerrero Pino—registered key blocks to maintain the two-goal cushion heading into the fourth.

Kansas City extended the lead early in the final quarter when Reget found the corner from distance on an assist from Henry Ramirez, pushing the score to 5–2. St. Louis pulled one back with just under five minutes remaining as Jeff Michaud connected with Raphael Araujo to make it 5–3.

The Comets closed the night with two late goals. After Nascimento was penalized for a handball outside the box, Dominic Francis converted the ensuing penalty kick—his first goal as a Comet since 2021. Reget capped the scoring with his second of the match on a power play, sealing the 7–3 final.
