ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan women’s soccer head coach Jennifer Klein has resigned from her position to pursue other professional opportunities, the athletic department announced. Michigan will conduct a national search for her replacement.

“Jen is a great coach and a tremendous person,” said Donald J. Shepherd Director of Athletics Warde Manuel. “We are grateful for everything she did for this university, our department, her student-athletes, and Michigan women’s soccer. We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her coaching career.”

Klein thanked university leadership and reflected on her time in Ann Arbor, where she spent eight seasons leading the Wolverines.

“Thank you to Warde and Lisa Savoury for the opportunity to be the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Michigan,” Klein said. “It was truly an honor. I will cherish the memories I made during my time at Michigan.”

She also expressed gratitude to her coaching staff, support staff, and student-athletes, highlighting the relationships built and the growth she witnessed both on and off the field.

Klein finished her Michigan tenure with a 72-58-21 record and compiled a 91-76-25 career mark as a head coach. During her time with the Wolverines, she guided the program to three NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2021 Big Ten Tournament championship. That 2021 team advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, tied a program record with 18 wins, and finished the season ranked No. 7 nationally.

Under Klein’s leadership, Michigan women’s soccer earned 40 All-Big Ten honors, 120 Academic All-Big Ten selections, and 39 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards. She also coached Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jayde Riviere and helped develop 12 Wolverines who went on to play professionally.

The university said additional details regarding the coaching search will be announced at a later date.
